What you'll notice
The main decoder works perfectly while the second one has no signal, or the two interfere — changing channel on one disturbs the other.
Why it happens
The head-end cannot properly support two independent decoders: a splitter fitted where a multiswitch was needed, an LNB with too few outputs, or a Smart LNB setup that was never configured for the second box.
This is the most common multi-room complaint, and the cause is almost always a splitter doing a multiswitch's job.
The distinction that explains everything
A splitter divides one signal so every output receives exactly the same thing. A multiswitch actively selects the right band and polarity for each output independently. Satellite channels are transmitted in different bands and polarities, so genuinely independent viewing requires a multiswitch. A splitter will let both decoders watch channels that happen to share a band — which is why it seems to half-work — and will fail the moment the two rooms want different ones.
The interference symptom, explained
If changing channel in the lounge breaks up the bedroom, the two decoders are competing to command the same feed. That is a head-end limitation, not a decoder fault, and no amount of resetting boxes will resolve it.
How we usually fix it
Most often by fitting a Smart LNB, which supports multiple decoders on a single cable and typically avoids running new cable through a finished house entirely. Where the existing cabling suits it better, a proper multiswitch at the head-end does the same job. We will tell you which applies and what each costs before starting.
