Troubleshooting guide

Common Multiswitch & Splitter problems

The 3 failures our Durban technicians meet most often — what you'll see, why it happens, and how we fix it properly.

Every fault below comes from real call-outs across Durban and surrounding areas. Some have a quick check you can try yourself before booking anyone — where that's true, we say so. When a visit is needed, the diagnosis is done with a signal meter, quoted before work starts, and covered by our 12-month workmanship warranty. New to this part? Start with the multiswitch & splitter component guide.

1. Extra View not working on the second TVE48-32 on one decoder

What you'll see: The main decoder works perfectly while the second one has no signal, or the two interfere — changing channel on one disturbs the other.

Why it happens: The head-end cannot properly support two independent decoders: a splitter fitted where a multiswitch was needed, an LNB with too few outputs, or a Smart LNB setup that was never configured for the second box.

How we fix it: We establish what your head-end actually is and what your setup requires, then fit the correct multiswitch or LNB — usually without needing to pull new cable through the house.

2. All TVs lost signal at onceE30, E48-32 on every decoder

What you'll see: Every decoder in the property lost signal simultaneously. No storm, no visible damage, nothing changed.

Why it happens: The multiswitch power supply has failed — commonly after a surge — or the multiswitch itself has died. Both take out every outlet at the same instant, which is what makes this so recognisable.

How we fix it: We test for power at the multiswitch and signal on its inputs and outputs, then replace the supply or the unit. We also fit surge protection at the head-end where there was none, because this failure repeats otherwise.

3. Some channels missing on one TV only

What you'll see: One decoder gets most channels but is missing a specific group, while other decoders in the same house receive everything normally.

Why it happens: That output of the multiswitch has partially failed, or the run to that room has enough loss that the weaker transponders no longer make it. Selective loss of a coherent group of channels is characteristic.

How we fix it: We measure at that room's outlet and compare against a working one, which isolates whether the fault is the multiswitch output, the cable run, or a connector along the way.

Symptom doesn't match any of these?

Faults overlap — a "multiswitch & splitter problem" is sometimes another link in the chain wearing a disguise. Describe what your system is doing on 069 507 6822 (or WhatsApp a photo of the error screen) and we'll tell you which component it actually sounds like, free, before anything is booked.
