DStv and Openview installs, TV mounting, CCTV, fridge repairs and aircon service — accredited local technicians with same-day call-outs and upfront, itemised pricing.
Every home runs on a handful of things that have to just work: the TV signal, the fridge, the aircon in February, and the cameras watching the gate. When one of them stops working, the last thing you want is to phone around five different companies, wait days for a callback, and then get a vague price that doubles once someone is standing in your lounge. Prime Installers was built to fix exactly that. We are a Durban-based team that handles DStv installation and signal repairs, Openview (OVHD) installations, professional TV mounting, CCTV and security camera systems, fridge and freezer repairs, and air-conditioning service and regassing — one accredited team, one phone number, one standard of workmanship.
Because we live and work here, we quote with Durban realities in mind. We know that salt air off the Indian Ocean eats unprotected brackets and LNBs, that summer thunderstorms knock dishes out of alignment, that load-shedding kills cheap CCTV setups, and that a fridge struggling in KZN humidity is not the same fault as one struggling in Gauteng. Every quote is itemised before work starts, every installation is tested in front of you, and every job is backed by a workmanship guarantee. Most importantly: when you WhatsApp us during business hours, a real technician — not a call centre — typically replies within about fifteen minutes.

A technician reviews your details and replies with an itemised price — typically within 15 minutes in business hours.
We confirm a time window, arrive with the right parts, and do the job properly — tested and demonstrated in front of you.
Every installation and repair is backed by our workmanship guarantee. If something we did isn't right, we come back.
A DStv installation looks simple from the couch, but the difference between a picture that survives a KZN thunderstorm and one that pixelates every time the wind blows comes down to the details: dish placement, bracket quality, cable routing, connector crimping and a signal level that is verified with a meter — not guessed at. Our accredited installers handle new single-view setups, full Explora Ultra installations, XtraView linking for multiple decoders, extra TV points, and dish realignments after storms or renovations.
The job we get called for most is the dreaded E48-32 "no signal" error. Nine times out of ten it's a dish knocked out of alignment, a waterlogged LNB, or a corroded connector — all quick fixes when diagnosed correctly. We arrive with spare LNBs, connectors and cable on the van, so most signal repairs are completed on the first visit. We also configure smart LNBs for Explora setups and tidy up the spaghetti of old cabling that previous installers may have left behind.
Whether you're in a freestanding house, a complex with body-corporate rules about dish placement, or a flat sharing a communal dish, we've handled it before and we quote accordingly — no surprises on arrival.
E48-32 means your decoder isn't receiving a usable satellite signal. Common causes: the dish has shifted (wind, a ladder bump, roof work), the LNB has failed or taken in water, a cable connector has corroded in our coastal air, or a splitter/multiswitch has died. We test signal strength and quality at the dish and at the decoder to pinpoint exactly where the chain breaks, then repair that link rather than replacing parts blindly.
XtraView lets two or three decoders share one subscription, each watching different channels. It needs the right LNB type, correct cabling between decoders and a heartbeat connection — which is where most DIY attempts fail. We supply and configure smart LNBs, link the decoders, and confirm every TV can record and play independently before we leave. Explora Ultra installs include dish optimisation, internet connection for streaming apps, and a walkthrough of the remote.
Want DStv in the bedroom or the patio? We add extra viewing points with properly routed RG6 cable — clipped, trunked or run through the ceiling, never draped over a doorway. Where the layout allows, we'll route cabling invisibly so the new point looks like it was always part of the house.
Openview HD is the best-kept secret in South African TV: a once-off installation, 20+ channels including SABC, eNCA and Openview exclusives, and no subscription, ever. For homes tired of monthly DStv debit orders — or for granny flats, staff quarters, holiday rentals and second TVs — OVHD is usually the answer. We supply and install the dish, run the cabling neatly, activate the decoder and scan in every available channel before we pack up.
Already have an old DStv dish on the roof? In many cases we can repurpose it for Openview with an LNB adjustment and realignment to the correct satellite, which keeps your installation cost down. We'll tell you upfront whether your existing hardware is usable or whether the coastal rust has had the final say.
We also fix existing OVHD setups: missing channels after a rescan, decoders that won't activate, signal that drops in bad weather, and decoder replacements where the original unit has failed. Most call-outs are resolved in a single visit.
Openview occasionally moves channels between transponders. If your decoder hasn't rescanned correctly — or its software is outdated — channels vanish from the list. We update the decoder firmware, run a full factory rescan with the dish correctly peaked, and confirm the complete channel lineup is back before we leave.
A new OVHD decoder must be activated against its serial number while receiving a good signal. Weak signal during activation is the number-one cause of decoders stuck on the activation screen. We peak the dish first, then run the activation, so it completes in minutes instead of failing repeatedly.
A wall-mounted TV transforms a room — until you notice it's two degrees off level, the cables dangle like vines, or worse, the bracket starts pulling out of the wall. Mounting a modern 55" or 65" TV safely is about matching the right bracket and anchors to the actual wall: face-brick, plastered brick, concrete, or drywall over steel studs all need different fixings. We assess the wall first, mount with the correct hardware, and torque-test before the TV goes anywhere near it.
We mount everything from compact bedroom TVs under 32" to 70"+ home-cinema panels, on fixed, tilt or full-motion swivel brackets. If you don't have a bracket yet, tell us your TV size and wall type in the quote form and we'll supply the right one at an honest price. Soundbars, consoles and decoders are connected and tested as part of the job.
The finishing touch is cable management. At minimum, cables are routed in clean white or paintable trunking. Where the wall and budget allow, we chase or fish cables inside the wall for a completely invisible finish — just a TV floating on the wall, nothing else.
Drywall can absolutely hold a large TV when the bracket is anchored into the studs behind the board or fitted with rated hollow-wall anchors and a load-spreading plate. The failures you've seen photos of happen when someone uses four plastic plugs in 12 mm gypsum and hopes. We locate studs, use rated fixings, and confirm the maximum safe TV weight before mounting.
For brick and concrete walls we chase a shallow channel, sleeve the cables, and make good the plaster — ready for paint. For drywall, we drop cables inside the cavity between entry and exit plates. Power points are extended by a qualified sparkie where needed so everything stays compliant. The result: zero visible cables.
The point of CCTV isn't the cameras — it's the footage you can pull up at 2am from your phone when the dogs start barking. We design and install HD analytic and IP camera systems for homes, complexes, shops, offices and warehouses across Durban, sized to your property rather than a one-size-fits-all kit. A walk-around (in person or via your photos in the quote form) tells us where the real blind spots are: driveways, side passages, yard gates and entrances.
Every system we install includes remote phone viewing as standard — live view and playback from anywhere, with motion notifications tuned so you're alerted to people, not every passing cat. Footage records to an NVR/DVR with enough storage for 2–4 weeks of history, and we set up secure access for each family member or staff member who needs it.
And because this is South Africa, we engineer for load-shedding: battery backup keeps cameras, recorder and router running through outages, so the system keeps watching exactly when criminals think it isn't. Ask about solar-assisted options for longer autonomy.
Most freestanding homes are well covered with 4 cameras: front entrance/driveway, back yard, and the two side approaches. Small complexes and shops typically need 4–8; warehouses and bigger sites 8–16+. More isn't always better — placement beats quantity. We'll tell you honestly if 4 well-placed cameras will outperform the 8-camera special you saw online.
The standard setup is a correctly-sized backup supply for the NVR, cameras and your router — keeping recording and remote viewing alive through a full stage-6 slot. We calculate the draw of your exact system rather than guessing, and we'll quote run-times so you know exactly what you're getting.
Wired (PoE/coax) systems are more reliable, don't clog your Wi-Fi, and can't be jammed as easily — our default recommendation for security that matters. Wi-Fi cameras have their place for renters and quick coverage, and we install those too, but we'll always tell you the trade-offs first.
A fridge fault is the one breakdown that gets more expensive by the hour, which is why fridge call-outs jump our queue. Our technicians repair all major brands — Defy, Samsung, LG, Hisense, Bosch, KIC, Whirlpool and more — covering single and double-door fridges, side-by-sides, chest and upright freezers, and bar fridges for homes and businesses.
The faults we see daily in Durban: not cooling (often a failed fan, blocked airflow, gas leak or struggling compressor), freezer working but fridge warm (usually a defrost-system failure icing up the airway), water pooling inside or under the unit (blocked drain line), heavy ice build-up, clicking or buzzing compressor noises, and door seals that have given up against the humidity. We diagnose with proper gauges and meters, explain the fault in plain language, and quote the repair before touching anything.
Honesty matters here: if a compressor has failed on a 12-year-old entry-level fridge, we'll tell you straight when a repair no longer makes financial sense — and what it would cost — so you can decide with real numbers instead of pressure.
First checks: is the condenser at the back caked in dust? Is the internal fan running? Is there frost where there shouldn't be? These point to airflow, fan or defrost faults — all very repairable. If everything runs but cooling is weak, refrigerant pressure is tested next. Snap a photo of the model sticker inside the door and WhatsApp it to us — it speeds up your quote dramatically.
If the repair costs less than roughly 40% of replacing the unit and the fridge is under 8–10 years old, repairing usually wins. Major component failures on very old units tip the maths the other way. We'll give you the repair price and our honest recommendation — the decision stays yours.
Durban humidity makes air conditioning a necessity, and it also makes aircons work harder than almost anywhere else in the country. Coils clog with dust and mould faster, drain lines block, and a unit that hasn't been serviced in two years can quietly lose a third of its cooling while your electricity bill climbs. We service, regas, repair and install split units, inverters and cassette systems for homes, offices and shops.
A proper service is more than a filter rinse: we deep-clean the indoor coil and blower wheel, flush the drain line (the cause of most indoor water leaks), clean the outdoor condenser, check refrigerant pressures and electrical connections, and test the unit's actual temperature drop before we sign it off. If your aircon blows but doesn't cool, needs a regas, drips water down the wall, smells musty, or trips the power, those are exactly the call-outs we handle daily.
Buying new? We supply and install correctly-sized units — from 9000 BTU bedrooms to 24000 BTU open-plan living areas — with neat piping, proper wall brackets and a clean condensate run. Right-sizing matters: an undersized unit never stops running, and an oversized one cools without dehumidifying, leaving the room cold but clammy.
Once a year minimum for bedrooms; every 6–9 months for units running daily, in coastal suburbs, or in dusty/commercial environments. Regular servicing keeps cooling performance up, power use down, and stops the mould smell before it starts. It also catches small refrigerant leaks before they become compressor-killers.
Almost always a blocked condensate drain: algae and dust build up in the line until water backs up and drips from the indoor unit. A frozen coil from low gas or a filthy filter causes the same symptom when it thaws. Both are quick fixes during a standard service — and far cheaper than repainting a water-stained wall.
Most Durban jobs are quoted within minutes and done the same day.
DStv to aircon — one trusted local number for the whole home.
Itemised pricing before any work starts. No on-site surprises.
We know the complexes, the suburbs and the coastal weather.
Equipment that survives in Johannesburg gets eaten alive on the Durban coast. Salt-laden air corrodes cheap brackets, connectors and LNBs within a couple of seasons; afternoon thunderstorms knock dishes out of alignment and send surges down badly-earthed cabling; and load-shedding silently rebooting your decoder, router and cameras several times a day shortens the life of all of them.
That's why our installations are specced for the conditions we actually work in. Outdoor fittings are corrosion-resistant, cabling is UV-stable and properly weather-sealed, dishes are mounted to handle coastal gusts, and CCTV systems include backup power as standard so your security doesn't blink when the lights do. When we repair storm or surge damage, we don't just replace the part — we address the reason it failed, so you're not phoning us again after the next front comes through.
If your current setup was installed by the cheapest quote five years ago and it's showing, send us a photo. We'll tell you honestly what's worth keeping and what the coast has already claimed.

"DStv was dead after the storm — E48-32 on every TV. They came out the same afternoon, realigned the dish, replaced a corroded connector and had us watching the rugby by 5pm. Quote upfront, no nonsense."
"Had a 65-inch mounted on drywall with all the cables hidden inside the wall. It looks like the TV is floating. They even mounted the soundbar and set everything up before leaving. Spotless work."
"Four cameras with phone viewing and a battery backup for load-shedding. The technician walked the property first and moved one camera position from my plan — he was right. Footage is crystal clear at night."
Straight answers to the things Durban customers ask us most.
For installations and quoted jobs, no — the price we quote is the price you pay. For diagnostic repair call-outs (fridges, aircons, signal faults) a standard call-out/diagnostic fee applies, which we confirm upfront and which is deducted from the repair price if you go ahead with us.
Same-day in most of greater Durban if you contact us in the morning, and usually within 24 hours otherwise. Fridge emergencies and security faults jump the queue. Mark your request "Emergency (Today)" in the quote form and we'll prioritise it.

Usually, yes. E48-32 is the most common DStv call-out and is typically a dish alignment, LNB or connector fault — all fixable in a single visit because our vans carry the parts. Send a photo of the error and your dish via WhatsApp and we'll quote within minutes.
Yes — XtraView linking of two or three decoders, full Explora Ultra installations with smart LNB and streaming-app setup, and additional TV points are everyday work for us. We confirm every decoder records and plays independently before we leave.
Either works. We supply dishes, LNBs, brackets, cameras, recorders and cabling at fair prices — or install equipment you've already bought. If you tell us what you have in the quote form, we'll quote labour-only and flag anything that's missing or unsuitable.
Use the price-guide tool above for honest Durban ranges: for example, a standard new DStv installation typically runs R950–R1450, TV mounting from around R450–R850 plus bracket, a 4-camera CCTV system R5500–R8500, and an aircon service R550–R850. Your exact quote depends on your home — the 60-second form gets you a firm number.
Yes. Every installation and repair carries our workmanship guarantee, and supplied hardware carries its manufacturer warranty. Keep your invoice — if a problem traces back to our workmanship, the return visit costs you nothing.
If we install it, yes — backup power for the cameras, recorder and router is part of our standard CCTV design, sized to ride through a full outage slot. We can also retrofit backup to an existing system that currently goes dark with the grid.
