DStv for Estates & Complexes

Sectional title, security estates and townhouse complexes — where body corporate rules, communal dishes and shared cabling change the job entirely.

Complexes are a different discipline from freestanding homes, and the difference is rarely technical — it is governance. Many bodies corporate prohibit individual dishes on external walls, some have a communal head-end that units are supposed to connect to, and a few have rules that nobody can produce in writing but which will still get your installation removed.

We check before we drill

The first question on any complex job is what the rules actually are, because a dish installed against them comes down at your cost. Where a communal system exists, connecting to it is usually cheaper, tidier and permitted — provided that system has been maintained, which is frequently the interesting question.

Communal systems that have stopped working properly

A great deal of our estate work is fixing head-ends installed at construction and never touched since. The signature is consistent: units furthest from the head-end pixelate first, then more units join them, and someone eventually turns an amplifier up until the units nearest the amplifier also start breaking up. We measure at the worst outlet, calculate the real loss, and quote a proper fix rather than another turn of the gain control.

Working with trustees

For body corporate work we quote in writing with the specification itemised, so trustees can compare quotes honestly and so whoever maintains it in five years knows what is up there. We can attend a trustees' meeting to explain the options, and we schedule work around residents rather than around our diary.

What estates & complexes actually lose

  • An installation removed at your cost for breaching body corporate rules
  • Whole blocks of units losing signal at once when an unmaintained head-end fails
  • Escalating resident complaints that trustees have no technical answer to
  • Paying repeatedly to amplify a distribution problem instead of fixing it
  • No documentation of the communal system, making every fault a fresh investigation

What we typically install

  • Rules check and, where needed, written specification for trustee approval
  • Connection to a compliant communal head-end where one exists and is sound
  • Head-end redesign with correctly sized multiswitches and matched amplification
  • Per-unit signal verification at the worst outlet, not just the nearest
  • Documented as-built specification handed to the body corporate
  • Scheduled maintenance contract with pre-storm-season inspections

Every property differs — the free site survey turns this into a fixed, itemised quote for yours.
