Every fault below comes from real call-outs across Durban and surrounding areas. Some have a quick check you can try yourself before booking anyone — where that's true, we say so. When a visit is needed, the diagnosis is done with a signal meter, quoted before work starts, and covered by our 12-month workmanship warranty. New to this part? Start with the hdmi & tv connection component guide.
1. HDCP error or black screen with soundHDCP
What you'll see: Sound plays normally but the screen stays black, or an on-screen message about protected content appears.
Why it happens: The HDCP copy-protection handshake between decoder and TV has failed — commonly because of a marginal cable, a soundbar or HDMI switch in the chain, or devices powered on in the wrong order.
How we fix it: We isolate the chain, correct the power-on order, substitute the cable, and identify which device in the path is failing to pass the handshake through.

2. Black screen after a resolution change
What you'll see: The screen went black after a settings change or a software update and there is no way to see the menu to change it back.
Why it happens: The decoder is outputting a resolution the TV cannot display. The box is working perfectly — the TV simply cannot show anything, including the menu you would use to fix it.
How we fix it: There is a front-panel reset sequence that returns the decoder to a safe resolution. It differs by model, and we will talk you through the right one for your box over the phone at no charge.

3. TV shows "No signal" on the HDMI input
What you'll see: The TV reports no signal on the HDMI input, while the decoder is clearly powered on and responding to its remote.
Why it happens: The wrong TV input is selected, the HDMI cable has failed, the cable is loose at one end, or the decoder's HDMI output has failed.
How we fix it: We confirm input selection, substitute a known-good cable, and test the decoder on another display — which definitively separates a cable fault from an output failure.

Symptom doesn't match any of these?
Faults overlap — a "hdmi & tv connection problem" is sometimes another link in the chain wearing a disguise. Describe what your system is doing on 069 507 6822 (or WhatsApp a photo of the error screen) and we'll tell you which component it actually sounds like, free, before anything is booked.
