Dish Mount & Bracket

The steelwork holding everything up. Boring, invisible, and the reason a good installation still works perfectly in ten years.

The bracket is the part nobody thinks about and the part that decides whether your installation survives. A dish is a sail: a 90cm reflector in a Highveld gale exerts serious force on its mounting, repeatedly, for years. The mount has to resist that without flexing a millimetre, because a millimetre of flex is a lost picture.

Fixing into the right thing

Solid brick or concrete, with correctly sized expansion anchors, every time. Not mortar joints, not single-skin plaster, not fascia board — all of which we routinely find holding up dishes that "suddenly stopped working". On tile and IBR roofs we fix to the structure beneath, not the covering, and we seal every penetration properly. A leak caused by a satellite installation is inexcusable and entirely avoidable.

Corrosion, especially on the coast

Within a few kilometres of the sea, ordinary galvanised steel has a hard life. Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha and East London installations want hot-dip galvanised or stainless fixings; painted mild steel will bleed rust down a wall and eventually fail at the bolt. This is a specification decision on installation day that either costs a little more now or costs a full re-installation in five years.

Pole plumb and true

The vertical section of the mount must be genuinely plumb. If it is not, elevation and azimuth interact as you adjust them, and the dish can never be properly peaked — it will sit somewhere near-enough and drop out in weather. Getting the pole right takes an extra five minutes and makes the alignment straightforward.

Brands we fit and service

The dish mount & bracket market splits into hardware built for South African conditions and lookalikes that fail at the first hard season. These are the manufacturers we trust on our installations:

  • Ellies galvanised wall and pole mounts
  • Triax commercial mounts

See our brand guides for how these manufacturers compare.
