Troubleshooting guide

Common Dish Mount & Bracket problems

The 3 failures our Durban technicians meet most often — what you'll see, why it happens, and how we fix it properly.

Every fault below comes from real call-outs across Durban and surrounding areas. Some have a quick check you can try yourself before booking anyone — where that's true, we say so. When a visit is needed, the diagnosis is done with a signal meter, quoted before work starts, and covered by our 12-month workmanship warranty. New to this part? Start with the dish mount & bracket component guide.

1. Loose or wobbling dish bracket

What you'll see: The dish visibly moves in the wind, the picture breaks up in gusts, and the whole assembly can be rocked by hand.

Why it happens: Fixings have worked loose, were fitted into mortar joints or weak substrate rather than solid brick, or the bracket is undersized for the dish it carries.

How we fix it: We re-fix into solid material with correctly sized anchors, upgrade the bracket where it was never adequate, and re-align afterwards — because any bracket work moves the dish off beam.

2. Rusted bracket and wall staining

What you'll see: Rust streaks running down the wall below the dish, visible corrosion on the bracket, and bolts that are seized or crumbling.

Why it happens: Non-galvanised or painted mild steel hardware in an outdoor environment, dramatically accelerated within a few kilometres of the coast by salt-laden air.

How we fix it: We replace the bracket with hot-dip galvanised or stainless hardware appropriate to the location, treat the wall, and re-align. On coastal properties the specification matters more than the price difference suggests.

3. Dish cannot be aligned — pole is not plumb

What you'll see: A dish that never quite peaks: an installer can get a picture but never a strong, stable signal, and it drops out at the first sign of weather.

Why it happens: The vertical section of the mount is not truly plumb. When the pole is off vertical, azimuth and elevation adjustments interact with each other and the dish cannot be properly peaked at all.

How we fix it: We plumb the mount correctly — shimming, re-fixing or replacing as needed — and only then align. It is the step that makes alignment straightforward instead of impossible.

Symptom doesn't match any of these?

Faults overlap — a "dish mount & bracket problem" is sometimes another link in the chain wearing a disguise. Describe what your system is doing on 069 507 6822 (or WhatsApp a photo of the error screen) and we'll tell you which component it actually sounds like, free, before anything is booked.
