What you'll notice
A specific channel or group of channels shows an E16 message, while other channels continue to work perfectly.
Why it happens
The subscription does not currently cover that channel, or the entitlement has not reached the decoder — typically because the box has been off for a long period or has not had signal long enough to receive its authorisation update.
E16 is an entitlement message, not a hardware failure, and it is important to understand the split so you do not pay for the wrong help.
What E16 actually means
Your decoder can see the channel perfectly well — it simply has not been told it is allowed to decrypt it. That instruction arrives over the satellite feed, and the box has to be powered on with good signal for long enough to receive it.
The fix that works most often
Leave the decoder switched on and tuned to a working channel for at least thirty minutes. Most E16s on a paid-up account clear themselves in that window, because the box finally receives the entitlement message it had been missing. If the box has been unplugged for a holiday or a house move, this is almost always all that is needed.
Where we do add value
If E16 will not clear after a proper refresh, the common reason is that signal quality is marginal — good enough for a picture on strong channels, not stable enough to reliably receive entitlement data. That is our job: measure the signal, find the weakness, fix it. If instead the answer is that the package does not include the channel or the account is in arrears, we will tell you honestly and not book a callout you do not need.
How we fix it
We verify the decoder is receiving good signal and holding it long enough to take an entitlement refresh, which is the part we can genuinely fix. Account and package questions belong with MultiChoice, and we will tell you that rather than charging for a callout.
Still not working?
If the checks above haven't restored your decoder (explora / hd), this usually needs a technician. Our Decoder Installation & Setup service covers exactly this fault — from R350, quoted upfront.
